XYLOMET-AbZ 1 mg/ml Nasal Spray 10 ml

  • The metered-dose spray is a nasal decongestant (rhinological agent, alpha-sympathomimetic).
  • The active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride has vasoconstrictive properties and thus causes a reduction in swelling of the nasal mucosa.
  • The metered-dose spray is used
    • For decongesting the nasal mucosa in cases of colds, vasomotor rhinitis and allergic rhinitis.
    • To facilitate the drainage of secretions in cases of sinusitis and middle ear infection (catarrh of the Eustachian tube) in conjunction with a cold.
  • The dosing spray is intended for school children and adults.

How does the active ingredient in the medication work?

The active ingredient constricts the dilated blood vessels in the mucous membranes of the nose and eyes. This reduces excessive blood flow to the olfactory and visual organs and shrinks the mucous membranes. Patients can breathe more freely through their nose again. Furthermore, the constant runny nose stops. In the eyes, bothersome redness and nonspecific irritation disappear.

    • In case of overdose, inform your doctor immediately. Poisoning can occur through significant overdose or accidental ingestion.
      • The clinical picture of poisoning with the drug can be confusing, as phases of stimulation can alternate with phases of suppression of the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system.
      • Symptoms of central nervous system stimulation include anxiety, agitation, hallucinations, and seizures. Symptoms resulting from central nervous system inhibition include decreased body temperature, apathy, drowsiness, and coma.
      • The following symptoms may occur:
        • Pupil dilation or constriction,
        • Nausea, vomiting,
        • Blue discoloration of the skin,
        • Fever, sweating, paleness,
        • irregular heartbeat, palpitations, heartbeat that is too fast or too slow, cardiac arrest,
        • Increased or shock-like decrease in blood pressure,
        • Fluid accumulation in the lung tissue,
        • Respiratory distress, respiratory arrest.
      • Especially in children, overdose often leads to central nervous system effects with convulsions and coma, slow heartbeat, respiratory arrest, and an increase in blood pressure, which can be followed by a drop in blood pressure.
      • In cases of poisoning, monitoring and treatment in a hospital are necessary.

  • If you forgot to use the application
    • Do not use a double dose if you missed a previous dose. Continue using the medication as prescribed or as described above.
