Kidofen
is an analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory drug. It belongs to a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The drug contains the active substance ibuprofen.
Indications
: Treatment of mild to moderate pain, such as:
- teething pain and toothache,
- headaches,
- earache,
- sore throat,
- post-operative pain,
- pain resulting from damage to soft tissue, joints, and bones,
- pain and fever associated with colds and flu.
Kidofen is used when oral administration is inappropriate, for example, in the case of vomiting.
If there is no improvement after a few days or the patient feels worse, consult a doctor.
Active substance: Ibuprofen
Composition:
The active substance is ibuprofen. 1 suppository contains 125 mg of ibuprofen. The other ingredients are: solid fat (A), solid fat (B). Always
use
this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not use Kidofen for more than 3 days without consulting a doctor.
Method of administration:
This medicine is for rectal use.
Remove the suppository from the blister and insert it into the anus, preferably after the child has passed a stool. To make the suppository more moist, you can warm it in your hand or briefly immerse it in warm water.
Do not exceed the maximum daily dose of 20 mg to 30 mg of ibuprofen per kg of body weight, divided into 3 to 4 single doses.
- Children weighing 12.5 kg to 17 kg (2 to 4 years):
the initial dose is 1 suppository. Then, if necessary, 1 suppository after 6 to 8 hours. Do not use more than 3 suppositories (375 mg ibuprofen) in 24 hours.
- Children weighing 17 kg to 20.5 kg:
the initial dose is 1 suppository. Then, if necessary, 1 suppository after 6 hours. Do not use more than 4 suppositories (500 mg ibuprofen) in 24 hours.
This medicine should not be used in children weighing less than 12.5 kg. Medicines containing a lower amount of ibuprofen are recommended for these children.
The lowest effective dose should be used for the shortest time necessary to relieve symptoms. If symptoms persist or worsen during an infection (such as fever and pain), consult a doctor immediately. Patients with kidney or liver problems should consult a doctor before using this medicine.
Taking a higher dose of Kidofen than recommended
If you have taken more Kidofen than you should, or if a child has accidentally taken this medicine, always contact your doctor or nearest hospital for an opinion on the possible risk to your health and advice on what action to take. Symptoms may include nausea, stomach pain, vomiting (may be blood streaked), headache, ringing in the ears, confusion, and nystagmus. Drowsiness, chest pain, palpitations, loss of consciousness, seizures (mainly in children), weakness and dizziness, blood in the urine, feeling cold, and breathing problems have been reported after taking large doses. If you
forget to take Kidofen:
Continue taking this medicine without increasing the next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.
