What causes abdominal cramps, bloating, and a feeling of fullness?
The exact causes of persistent or recurring digestive problems are not yet fully understood. However, there are various approaches currently being pursued.
THE GUT-BRAIN AXIS AS A CONNECTION BETWEEN HEAD AND BELLY
It is clear that digestive problems are often influenced by the psyche. Stress, emotional strain, anger, and fear have a negative impact on existing gastrointestinal problems and can worsen symptoms.
INFECTIONS AND ANTIBIOTICS CHANGE THE INTESTINAL FLORA
For healthy digestion, the intestines need to be colonized by microorganisms. Unfortunately, this interaction can easily be disrupted, for example, by antibiotic therapy. This is because it not only fights the pathogens but also some of the good intestinal bacteria. It can take some time for the intestinal flora to recover. However, even previous infections alone can trigger inflammation in the intestines, causing the intestinal wall to become more permeable. This can worsen typical digestive symptoms.
FOOD AFFECTS DIGESTION
Foods can also contribute to digestive problems. People with food intolerances should therefore make sure to consistently eliminate the affected foods from their diet.
