Intended use:
Test strips for the quantitative in vitro determination of prothrombin time in capillary whole blood or non-anticoagulated venous whole blood using a CoaguChek XS/XS Plus/XS Pro device. Suitable for self-testing. Also known as the Quick test or Quick value, or by the abbreviation PT.

Test principle:
Electrochemical measurement of prothrombin time after activation of blood coagulation with recombinant human thromboplastin. Each test strip contains a test pad with a prothrombin reagent. Once the blood is applied, the reagent is dissolved, and an electrochemical reaction takes place, which is converted into a clotting time value. This value is shown on the device display in INR units.1-2

Measuring range and therapeutic range:
The test results on the CoaguChek XS/XS Plus/XS Pro device can be displayed in the following units: INR (International Normalized Ratio), % Quick, and seconds. The measuring ranges are as follows: 0.8-8.0 INR (5-120 % Quick). Your individual therapeutic range is determined by your physician. The relationship between INR and % Quick may vary slightly depending on the CoaguChek XS PT Test test strip lot.

What to do if the test results are outside the therapeutic range:
If the test results are unusually low or high, repeat the test. If the measurement result is still outside the therapeutic range specified by the physician, the treating physician must be notified immediately and further (anticoagulation) measures must be agreed upon in order to prevent the risk of excessive anticoagulation (risk of bleeding) or insufficient anticoagulation (risk of thrombosis).

Notes on PT self-determination:
If PT self-determination is carried out by the patient in addition to treatment by the physician, the following must be observed: PT self-determination supports medical monitoring, but cannot replace it. PT self-determination gives the anticoagulated patient more security in everyday life. The measured results should be recorded in a diary (patient record) and presented to the physician regularly. This makes it easier for the physician to assess the quality of the therapy.

Sample material:
Use only fresh capillary blood or venous whole blood without anticoagulants (heparin, EDTA, citrate, oxalate or other substances). If you use capillaries, please use only the special CoaguChek capillary tubes ([ref] 11621173).

Storage and shelf life:
Store at 2-30°C. If stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator, the test strips can be stored until the expiration date indicated on the package or test strip container. Do not use test strips beyond the expiration date. Immediately reseal the tube tightly after removing a test strip. This is necessary to prevent the remaining test strips from becoming unusable due to external influences such as humidity.

The CoaguChek XS Softclix lancing device was specifically developed for patient self-testing. It is not suitable for clinical use or for testing multiple individuals due to the risk of infection. Healthcare professionals performing tests on multiple patients must be aware of the potential risk of infection. Any object that comes into contact with human blood represents a potential source of infection.
