Aquacel Ag Foam
Aquacel Ag Foam is an antimicrobial foam dressing with silver and reliable wound edge protection. It combines the comfort and absorption capacity of a foam dressing with the power of silver ions and the healing properties of the gel-forming Aquacel Ag wound contact layer.
Intended Use:
Aquacel Ag Foam dressings are designed for use as a primary dressing. Aquacel Ag Foam dressings can be used under medical supervision to treat exuding acute and chronic wounds that are at risk of infection or show signs of infection.
Indication:
Aquacel Ag Foam is suitable for the care of acute and chronic, moderately exuding wounds that are infected or at risk of infection:
- Wounds with existing infection or increased risk of infection
- Leg ulcers
- Venous stasis ulcers
- Leg ulcers of mixed etiology
- Arterial ulcers
- decubitus
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Surgical wounds
- Second-degree burns
- Traumatic wounds
Aquacel Ag Foam can be used as a primary dressing for superficial wounds and as a secondary dressing for wounds 3 mm and deeper in combination with a wound filler, e.g., Aquacel Ag+ Extra.
Contraindications:
Aquacel Ag Foam dressings should not be used in cases of known intolerance to the dressing or its components. Aquacel Ag Foam dressings are not compatible with oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide or hypochlorite solutions.
Precautions and Warnings:
Sterility is only guaranteed as long as the wound dressing packaging remains undamaged and unopened before use. Do not use the product if the packaging has been damaged or opened before use. If this happens, the product must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. These wound dressings are intended for single use only and must not be reused. Repeated use of the product may lead to an increased risk of infection or cross-contamination. Aquacel Ag Foam dressings are waterproof, but should not be submerged when bathing or swimming. This wound dressing should not be used with any other wound care products without first consulting a healthcare professional. After the adhesive foam dressing has been cut to size, an additional adhesive film may be required to secure the dressing to the wound. The non-adhesive Aquacel Ag Foam dressing always requires an additional fixation bandage or other securement to secure the dressing to the wound. Aquacel Ag Foam dressings are not compatible with oil-based products. During the body's normal healing process, dead tissue is removed from the wound (autolytic debridement), which may initially make the wound appear larger. Because Aquacel Ag Foam dressings provide a warm, moist environment that supports the growth of new blood vessels, the delicate newly formed blood vessels may occasionally produce a bloody discharge. Physicians/healthcare professionals should be aware that there is very limited data on the prolonged and repeated use of silver-containing products, particularly in children and newborns. Skin discoloration has been observed after long-term use of silver-containing products, but this is often temporary and resolves once the silver-containing dressing is discontinued. If you notice skin irritation (redness, inflammation), maceration (softening of the skin with white discoloration), hypergranulation (excessive tissue growth), or signs of infection (increasing pain, bleeding, warmth/redness of the surrounding tissue, wound exudate), or a change in wound color and/or odor during dressing changes, please consult your doctor or nurse. Aquacel Ag Foam dressings are designed to be MRI safe. After use, this product may pose a potential biohazard. Handle and dispose of it in accordance with accepted medical practice and applicable local laws and regulations. If a serious incident occurs during or as a result of the use of this product, please report it immediately to the manufacturer and the relevant national authority.
Duration of use:
Aquacel Ag Foam dressings can be worn for up to 7 days. If clinically indicated, dressing changes must be made sooner. The need for Aquacel Ag Foam should be reassessed after 14 days, and alternative wound care should be considered if necessary.
Instructions for use:
Do not use the product if the packaging has been damaged or opened prior to use. If this occurs, the product should be disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Before applying the dressing, the wound and peri-wound area should be cleansed with an appropriate wound cleansing solution, such as sterile saline.
Dressing preparation and application:
Select the size and shape of the dressing so that the central absorbent pad (area within the adhesive window) is 1 cm larger than the wound area. Remove the dressing from the sterile packaging and avoid touching the wound contact surface and adhesive surface (if applicable). Before using the adhesive foam dressing, please remove the protective film. The foam dressing can be trimmed if necessary. Hold the foam dressing over the wound and align the center of the dressing with the center of the wound. Place the wound pad directly on the wound. For adhesive foam dressings, smooth the adhesive edge. Ensure that the dressing is not stretched during application. Smooth the adhesive edge for adhesive versions. Ensure that the joints are sufficiently flexed to allow for patient mobility. If the foam dressing does not have an adhesive edge, or if the adhesive foam dressing with an adhesive edge has been cut to size, it should be secured with a suitable fixation bandage or adhesive tape. For difficult-to-dress anatomical sites such as the heel or sacral area, the special shapes (heel, sacral) can be used. After covering the wound, discard any unused portion of the product.
Removing the foam dressing:
The foam dressing should be changed when clinically indicated (e.g., leakage, bleeding, increasing pain). The recommended maximum wearing time is seven days. The wound should be cleaned at appropriate intervals. To remove the foam dressing, gently press on the skin and gently lift one corner of the dressing. Continue until all corners have been removed. Carefully lift the foam dressing from the wound and dispose of it properly.
Storage:
Store at room temperature (10°C to 25°C). Keep dry. Protect from light.
