5-Hydroxytryptophan is the amino acid that is converted in the brain to the chemical serotonin . Serotonin affects mood, appetite, sleep and behavior.

Serotonin is found in many places in the body, but mostly in the brain, gastrointestinal tract and blood. Decreased serotonin levels can lead to overweight, increased cravings for sugar and other carbohydrates, depression, headaches and muscle aches of unknown origin.

Frequent mood swings, feelings of constant and uncontrollable hunger, obesity, insomnia, regular headaches, sudden mood swings - when all these signs are present, the truth is that you may not be getting 5HTP.

The active substance is extracted from the seeds of Griffonia simplicifolia - the plant that is a source of 5-hydroxytryptophan.
